Redhill Games was recently the victim of a cyberattack that may have included unauthorized access to our network. Specifically, personal information of Nine to Five players may have been compromised, as well as internal company documents. We are currently coordinating with law enforcement to investigate this attack, however, out of an abundance of caution for our community, we are sharing the complete details of everything we know at this moment.
For Nine to Five players, the at-risk data does not contain any credit card or bank information. To date, the game has been in various stages of alpha/beta, and Redhill has never asked participating players to enter any payment information.
There are different levels of data that may have been compromised for those who have previously tested Nine to Five. Below we have broken these groups down in chronological order of the game’s testing phases from 2020-2021 to help these individuals understand specifically how they may have been affected:
- “Friends and family” players:
- Name, company, age group and email. This accounts for roughly 400 people.
- Those who signed up for the closed alpha and/or opted in to receive emails from us (any time before the end of December 2020):
- Email. This accounts for roughly 100,000 people.
- Closed alpha players:
- Email and IP address. This accounts for roughly 17,000 people.
- Closed alpha players who won the Nine to Five T-shirt raffle:
- Name, address, email, gender, T-shirt size, and additional delivery notes. This accounts for 95 people.
- Beta weekend players:
- Those that played only the recent beta weekend (February 11-15, 2021), but did not play the closed alpha or opt in to receive emails from us (before the end of December 2020) have no information at risk.
We do not believe there is a need for you to take any action at this time. Please remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to the proper authorities.
With regard to our business associates whose information may have been compromised, we will be in direct contact.
We at Redhill offer our sincerest apologies for any concerns or impact this criminal act presents to our players and stakeholders. As creators of video games, we treat the security of digital content very seriously. In addition to coordinating closely with law enforcement, we have been working with IT specialists and security experts and have already taken measures to strengthen our data security even further moving forward.
We will continue to be transparent with the community about any important information we discover. If you have any questions about this matter, do not hesitate to reach out to us at datasecurity@redhillgames.com.
Thank you,
Redhill Games
